2012  Videogame Culture as Transnational Media: One Neoliberalism, Many Resistances Dissertation completed at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2012 which analyzes Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid 4 (2008) and Square Enix's Final Fantasy 12 (2006) as exemplars of the early 21st century science fiction videogame and the fantasy role-playing videogame, respectively. The quick summary: both videogames are world-class works of interactive art, which feature fantastic scriptwriting, visual design, voice-acting, and compelling game-play, characters who are diverse in race, gender, sexuality and age, and stories which showcase progressive representations of race, gender, sexuality as well as critiques of imperialism and colonial warfare.

2003  The World is Watching Analyzes three classic television series, Patrick McGoohan's The Prisoner (1967), Krzysztof Kieslowski's The Decalogue (1989) and Hideaki Anno's Neon Genesis: Evangelion (1995) as works of transnational media, published by Southern Illinois University Press in 2003. Most of the analysis stands up fairly well, though it should be noted that I used the terminology 'multinational' instead of the far more accurate 'transnational'. The quick summary: McGoohan demolished the Bond spectacular and anticipated the 1968 insurrections; Kieswloski demolished the Eurasian one-party state and created the space of the future European Union; and Anno demolished the Japanese mecha and created the space of East Asian transnational science fiction.

2000  Global Storm: Theodor Adorno's Negative Dialectics Dissertation filed with the University of Oregon in 2000.

2014  Transnational Geopolitics Rethinking the rise of neoliberalism as the first truly transnational phase of capitalism (2014). This essay was a test run for Meditations on Geopolitics. Like all early experiments, there are numerous presuppositions which are debatable and mediations which are insufficiently historicized, but the general point still stands: we need new kinds of concepts to understand the post-2008 world-system.
